I constantly find myself in awe when watching the sun rise or set, but NEVER wondered why I and most people feel the same about this cyclical natural occurrence. Some of my friends also told me that I remind them of light and shadows because these elements are present in most of my photographs, but I never cared to ask myself why chasing after light has always made me feel happy.

My Kinfolk Volume Fourteen has been sitting on my shelf in between other quarterlies that I have not finished because of lack of time and the pile of books that I have also started and not finished (Nope, not really proud of this.). Feeling uninspired, I decided to pull it from the stack, skip the first parts, and read the article that has caught my eye the first time I skimmed its pages entitled “The Meaning of Light”. There, it was confirmed that sunlight is beneficial to our bodies and minds and means more than just an indicator of a day‘s beginning and end.

The rising and setting of the sun, whether we realize it or not, dictates our daily activities. Night shifts, snooze buttons, and spontaneous midnight series marathons have just been causing us to resist the light and the seemingly mundane routine which happen to be healthy for us emotionally and physically.

So this must be why waking up at 6AM, going after dusk and dawn, and feeling fascinated when light starts to seep through our windows and onto our breakfast table and food (even though I witness it every single morning) makes me feel OK. This must be why I crave for mornings every day. We all need to recognize our body‘s circadian rhythms and wake up, walk, and sleep with the sun instead of against it.
